GF, Day one

Is it normal to feel worse before you feel better? I'm just craving lots of gluten foods and sweets. I feel really exhausted today too, but I guess that isn't out of the ordinary.

If GF helped you feel better, how long did it take?

It took me 2 weeks or so to feel better, but I needed to go Grain Free/ Sugar Free/dairy free to feel excellent. But thats just me. Just like anything that you are detoxing from you will have those wonderful withdrawl symptoms. STAND FIRM you can do it and think of how much better you will feel

I felt a bit jittery the first day. It wasn't debilitating, but it was noticeable. It was only a day for me, but I've read of kids craving bread for days. I was getting some acupuncture appointments during the same time period, and I'd just started a high-dose multivit/multimineral supp within the previous month (lots of caveats, I know) but I got a boost of energy 1.5 days after cutting out gluten and dairy. But during the same time period, especially when I emotionally accepted that I has a problem that was going to take a while to fix, I had a few weeks of even more fatigue, and fatigue was a pre-existing problem I was trying to address. I think it was the removal of the emotional stress--could it happen with the removal of a physical stress? Seems possible.

Make sure you're getting enough food. For me, fat and meat were really helpful, but I'm sure that varies somewhat.

My DS had horrible cravings for 3 days. Sounded like a heroin addict, begging for one crumb of bread. It was awful to go through for both of us. But on the 4th day he was fine. So yes, sometimes there are withdrawals.

craving a food is yet another reason to avoid the food

Thanks for your input, everyone. Sounds like what I'm feeling can be pretty normal. Hopefully it indicates just how good I'm going to feel when all the gluten is out of my system.
