Which baby carrier as gift for more conventional parent

I have a friend whose daughter is having a baby soon, and he wants to get her a baby carrier. He isn't really in contact with his daughter (her choice, not his), but he wants to send her a gift that will be best for both her and her baby: a baby carrier!

He says that she probably wouldn't be very patient with something complicated, so wraps are definitely out. I'd consider recommending a pouch sling just because they're so easy, but they aren't the most comfortable and have limited use. I'd consider a mei tai because they're so versatile, but that might be too complicated. I'd consider an SCC, but they're not really for kids under 15 lbs. I think I'm leaning toward a ring sling, but I'd need a brand that's not that expensive and comes with really good directions since I'm not sure how much help she'd have figuring out how to use it. I know that the one shouldered carry gets uncomfortable after a while, but it's probably the best I can do.

Does anybody have any recommendations? Anything I'm missing?

The Pikkolo is buckle carrier that can be cinched at the bottom for small babies or front facing out (not ideal, but may appeal to someone more mainstream).

I also think mei tais are nice. I just gave my cousin and his wife a babyhawk that matched their baby's nursery. His wife is very mainstream, but she seemed to think it was nice.

For an inexpensive ring sling I'd look into Sleeping Baby Productions. They seem to be well liked. I personally found ring slings to be trickier than a buckle carrier or mei tai however.

I have an Ergo and I love it! I think it's pretty mainstream-y looking. You can buy an infant insert to go with it to make it appropriate for newborns. The only downfall of the Ergo is that it can be kinda hot. I live in NC and I don't have much use for during July and Aug. because it's just so darn hot here. But, the fact that I can use from infancy thru toddlerhood makes-up for that fact. I've also heard good things about the BabyHawk Oh Snap! carrier. It is mei tai style, but with buckles.

I think a SSC would be good- it's not too far from the mainstream baby-bjorn kind, so it won't be too intimidating, and most are ok for newborns, with a small adjustment.
I got an Action Baby Carrier, and you just put a rolled up blankie under the newborn, and put them in froggie position.

I'd suggest a SSC- I really like the looks of the Olives and Applesauce ones.

I suggest a baby bag in which almost all the baby item is present. that will be the best gift.

I would also recommend Action Baby Carrier, a lightweight soft structured carrier . I was not able to use carrier to a newborn but I think this would be great. My sister-in-law is 3months preggy now and I'm also planning to give her ABC as a gift. It would be their first baby so they will surely love it. Goodluck in choosing your carrier. Hope this helps!!
