Allergic to corn but not popcorn? Possible?

If I eat anything with corn I feel sick, but If I eat organic homemade popcorn, I don't feel the same way. Aren't corn and popcorn basically the same thing? Should I be avoiding popcorn then?

Don't get my hopes up like that. I've been wanting popcorn a lot lately... is there something else with the other corn that could be causing it vs. the corn itself?

I tried organic corn meal made into bread, organic non GMO chips, nongmo tortillas soaked plain ingredients, and I felt like crap with all of them abd my stomach hurt. Any ingredients with hidden corn like xanthum gum, and I feel bad.

With popcorn if it is not organic, I don't feel good, but When we got organic popcorn from the HFS and home popped it, I feel great and can eat bowls.

It is the opposite here, but my baby's issue is sals which are much more concentrated in dried foods.

There are many different kinds of corn and some of it makes better popcorn than others, so I wonder if the brand you are getting is using some heritage strain that is different than what is used in most corn products???

Have you tried organic whole corn and had the same problems- or is it just the processed corn?

What do you mean Whole corn? The corn meal was whole and I ground it myself. I even tried masa corn and still no good.

I meant like- if you eat corn on the cob, or cook some plain frozen sweet corn, you get the same effects as eating corn as an ingredient in something?

I was wondering if you were only using processed corn products, like corn meal from a box. If that were the case, I would suspect something in the processing. But if you're processing the corn yourself, from whole corn, then that kills my theory.

If you are reacting solely to things that have corn *in* them, is there any other common ingredient?

Oh why didn't I think of sweet corn. Yes if I eat frozen sweet corn I do get sick feeling. But why is it that popcorn is fine for me? Aren't they the same thing?

It is my understanding that popcorn is not the same. It is corn, but it is a particular type that can be dried and popped. Perhaps it is just enough of a change to make a difference for you.

Well if that's the case, Kathy, perhaps you should give it a try. If you do let us know how it goes.

I wonder if one is GMO corn and one is non GMO corn... or have you done that trial....

I'm not ready for a corn trial yet. The top 4 are going to be the last 4 to add, no matter how much I want popcorn (dripping with butter), and popcorn balls, and corn tortillas, and cornbread, and...

Shh... you're making me want to

I am actually almost desperate enough to see if I can pop rice the same way corn pops.

I ate so much popcorn today that the entire inside of my mouth is raw (from the salt I suppose.) I have to get my fill though while I can, just in case this corn trial fails!!
