Is ovarian pain normal?

I've noticed that maybe the past 4 months or so, I've been getting pains on either side around where my ovaries are--not excruciating pains, but just sort of uncomfortable pangs that come and go about 10 seconds later. This happens many times a day around when I am ovulating, and then happens often again over a course of several days during my period.

I am a bit concerned since this never happened to me in the past. Does it warrant a trip to the doctor, or is it normal to have ovarian pain now and then? I'm 31 if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

It's normal. If you think about it, your ovaries are growing/maturing several cysts at once until one finally bursts and the others all stop... it's kinda crazy that the whole process doesn't hurt more!

I don't know what your diet is like, but you may want to consider reducing your caffeine intake (if you have any, that is)! That may help. If the pain gets worse or your cycles change, I'd recommend going to a doc just to make sure there aren't any bigger cysts (or anything else) going on in there.

I saw this in new posts, and I just want to say that I used to always get discomfort when ovulating and then during my period.

Until I read the pp I didn't make the connection that I haven't had that pain since I gave up coffee 6 months ago!

OT: I was tempted to go get a coffee today, but reading this has renewed my resolve to stay off it!

Thanks for the responses! Interesting about the caffeine...I do drink tea but I don't think the pain is bad enough...giving up tea would be worse!
