Allergy test - what to expect?

Ds1 (7 years old) wheezes every time he gets a cold/cough and has used an inhaler and a nebulizer several times throughout the winter. Our pediatrician recommended an allergist to take him to before we call it asthma. I've got an appointment set up for him in about a week and a half. I was just reading the info packet and it said that the first visit will last 3-4 hours. What can I expect? Ds HATES getting shots and makes a big (screaming, kicking) deal of it. Even if the pricks that he gets aren't shots, is he likely to totally freak out? Best way to prepare him for what to expect? Is the long time period mostly a waiting period for results of some sort? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

I think your best bet is to call the office and find out. DD had allergy testing done at age 2, they did "scratches" I don't know what the technical term is on her back. No shots. She did great.

When I had allergy testing done (I think I was 10) I got shots up and down each arm...

We've been dealing with a chronic cough for over a year now and are finally getting our dd in for asthma testing.
