I have horrible varicose veins and I have discovered vitamin E oil greatly reduces my pain in my veins. I know if I take vit E internally it should also help. I was wondering if this was safe and if anyone knows how much?

I take 1 or 2 400mg/day, and I had found that within the dosage recommended but I don't remember where I found the info! I prob found it online. I started taking them when it felt like I was getting some painful veins and they haven't bothered me after a week of self care (ie legs up the wall poses and massage) and regular intake of vit E and C.
Is it puppies, thanks for your reply. I have read some things online that make me concerned even taking 400 IU's. Like increase risk of blood pressure and pre e which I have a problem with at the end of all my pregnancies, heart defects in baby, and stillbirth. I don't know how well these studies were done, but it scared me and I am saddened at the same time because the Vit E is the only thing that has made my legs feel somewhat normal. The pain is so bad and the compression hose is unbearable, I live in Texas where it gets really hot.
I am at a lost on what to do. I need to call my doc/midwife and see if they know anymore, but I am not sure they will.

I have read that vit E is good for high blood pressure! even used as a Pre-E treatment!
http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supple...MIN+E&source=2
I also just found a study stating that low vit E in preg is linked to asthma and wheezing!
http://www.medpagetoday.com/OBGYN/Pregnancy/4035
Here's a recap of the study stating that it's bad for baby's heart, and it doesn't look very reliable, and even if it were it also states it's only linked around the time of conception, so far I haven't found anything that worries me (and I am a worrywort- I won't touch any supplement with Vit A, only Beta carotene).

according to midwifery textbooks, vit e is essentially non-toxic. if you are taking a supplement make sure it's the highest quality you can afford. please don't buy your supplements at walmart, or cvs or the grocery store. take the time to go to the best health food store around or look online for a pure source.
many of the studies showing toxicity and side effects are from using vit e sourced from unreliable origins and are HIGHLY processed. so, yes, i would definitely heed the warnings, but be aware the the quality of the supplement in question has lots to do with how studies turn out.
the best thing to do if you're concerned about supplementation, is to increase vit e rich foods in your diet. some good sources of vit e are:
cold-pressed oils
eggs
wheat germ
organ meats
molasses
sweet potato
leafy green vegetables
hth!
