TED or not?

Thread Starter
Brief background:
DD (almost 2) and I were gluten and wheat free for about a year (she had a sensitivity that never showed up on allergy tests). DH did not adopt the diet during that time, but decreased his intake. My nephew has some behavioral issues that seem to be helped by eliminating several things (chocolate, wheat, diary, eggs and soy). DH's niece has severe allergies to the above items minus chocolate.

DH has been complaining of general fatigue, stomach pain and indigestion. We eat fairly good (for Americans). We have been back on Wheat and Soy for about 3 months now and he is feeling progressively worse. He never eliminated either completely, but with DD and I doing it, he ate far less.

Anyways, I want to do some eliminating for his sake (and also because I notice that DD has developed eczema on her arms since introducing wheat again).

My Question:
Should we do TED, or just eliminate the most allergic items?
Also, I am 17 weeks pregnant, so I don't know how much I should really do the elimination diet.
We would all be fine with TED, but it may be too severe for our issues. What do you think?

I'd totally take out gluten for a month and see how you're all feeling. That shouldn't have any nutritional impact. If that doesn't completely address the symptoms, take out other top intolerance foods (dairy, soy, corn). But it sounds like you have some good clues as to the problem, so I'd start with gluten!

I wouldn't do a TED at first, especially because it seems like you have a good idea of where to start. I'd cut gluten, then if there are still problems move on to any other top allergens you suspect.

I always take out "known" previous allergens first, then see what's left. If the symptoms don't abate, then go for other top offenders. Keep a food journal during this time (for everyone).
