My DD weaned on her own at 17 months almost a year ago. It was really hard on me and I fought her for a month before I finally threw in the towel and let her wean. I am now 5.5 months pregnant and she came up to me pulled down my shirt and quickly licked my nipple. I told her that they were to feed the baby and then she asked for 'nursies'. I didn't want to embarrass her by telling her no. (She has been curious about my breast for a month now but there is always DS or DH home when she is inquiring.) The guys were when this happened. I was also a bit curious to see what she would do. She crawled up in my lap laid down and just did a quick suck on one side and then asked for the other. She didn't really latch, I am sure she has forgotten how. Anyway, does anyone know what is going on here? I think its a little late for her to decide that she wants to nurse again. Does she smell my milk? Should I just let her nurse again? I am all about child led weaning but she is already weaned. I am curious to how she will act when I am nursing this new LO. Any ideas, suggestions, BTDT?

Dd weaned, with some encouragement from me, when she was 27 months and I was pregnant with ds. She showed some interest occasionally in the 9 months that followed, but I didn't let her nurse. I thought about it, but I just kind of brushed it off when she asked, and she didn't persist.
I'm not sure what the trigger is -- curiosity, biology, a sense that your attention is shifting to the coming baby, a combination of things?
I think you just have to do what feels right to you. I think if you do let her, as you did, she may well not choose to start nursing again. (Dd seemed to be forgetting how to nurse even before she totally weaned. The last few times we nursed, it was like she didn't know how to latch on.) I also think that if you discourage it she will probably stop asking.
