For those whose babies nap only in ergo/carriers- when/how did you get this to change?

My DD has napped in the ergo on me 3x/day since she was tiny-she's now 8 months and 18+ pounds. In the rare instances (not for a long while despite trying) I've been able to get her to sleep in bed, she naps maybe 30 minutes whereas in the ergo I can usually get an hour out of her by bouncing/nursing as need be to settle her back down. Well now I've got a couple significant physical issues being exacerabated by carrying this weight around during her naps (I usually stand since sitting wakes her up) so I'm trying to think about how to successfully make this transition. Ive read the illustrious NCSS & Sleepless in America but they dont really address this. I'm open to staying with her in bed, getting lovies etc. and have been trying to get my hubby to to set up a sidecarred crib too.

Oh-at night I nurse her and walk her to sleep with lots of bouncing.

How have you BTDT mamas made this transition and at what age? How did you get your LOs to sleep well & long enough this way? Thank you so much!!

I post this all of the time, but I'm big on stroller naps. I walk LO around inside my house in the stroller so if she wakes too early, I can walk her back down. I also like that I can bring her into whatever room I'm in. I put the tv/radio/ipod on so we can talk without waking her.

mkksmom- neat idea! Do you nurse LO down or do other things to get really sleepy before putting in stroller? thanks!

I'm having some success with getting DS2 out of the ergo after about 30 mins. (while he's conked out, but not too deeply asleep), lying down, and nursing him back into a deeper sleep. Of course, I usually have to stay near and nurse him back dowm every 20 mins. or so, but he'll usually sleep about 1.5 to 2 hrs like that. I get DS1 (3) to "help" by gently patting him or singing, so that he doesn't feel too excluded since I can't totally focus on him while doing this. I hope that eventually I'll be able to just nurse him lying down and be able to leave...

My baby is only just about 4 months but we are having some success having him nap out of a carrier with other types of motion. He sleeps in the stroller as a previous poster suggested, and also is enjoying the newborn-to-toddler rocker. It's like a big bouncer chair that vibrates, I rock him in it a little to help him to sleep and then he stays asleep more than an hour
