Burping and side-lying

DD wakes very frequently. She often just takes her pacifier, but I'll actually nurse about every 2/3 hours during the night, and every 3/4 hoursduring the day. She is eight months, and eats really well (BLW).

Ped suggested she might have gas at night. Often she just needs a cuddle. We side lie. Do you burp your baby at night? If you started burping, did this make a difference? I'm kind of skeptical... I think she just likes her mama's milk and to check I'm here...

That frequency of nursing sounds perfectly normal to me. With both my babies, I didn't burp them at all after they were about 5 months old.

What made the ped worried that baby may have gas?

Nothing in your post sounds like gas. Was he just basing that the frequency of eating?

We stopped burping around 4 months. He's almost 8 months now and feeds about as frequently as you describe at night, though maybe less during the day.

I still burp ds at 6 months if we are up or if he fusses right after nursing in bed. If we are lying in bed nursing at night and he goes back to sleep, I just let him be. If he needs to burp, he will squirm and fuss. If I have recently nursed him and he starts waking up, I will often get up and put him over my shoulder to bounce him back to sleep and see if he has a burp. So, I guess it depends on if/why you think gas might be an issue. I hope that helps.

We were at the ped after a couple of days of screaming at night, that ended up being roseola (she had a fever with the screaming). She wakes up often, and needs cuddling/pacifier back to sleep - I don't normally need to get out of bed. Maybe she was referring to that when she suggested it could be gas. It was more the frequent waking that is resolved without nursing that I'm trying to eliminate. I'm fine with nursing every couple hours. (surprisingly!) I think it might be time to try to eliminate the pacifier a la Pantley again...
