Baby weight gain?

Just got back from the doc - Skylar weighed in at 13lb 4oz, up from 12lb 6oz exactly 4 weeks ago. I read that babies should gain 1-2 lbs per month...I'm probably being paranoid but...should I be worried that she gained under a pound in 4 weeks? She's EBF, no problems feeding and seems healthy and happy. Doc didn't say anything about the weight gain. She's 3 months and 1 day today and was 9lb 7oz at birth. Am I being paranoid?

Yes I wouldn't worry if she is meeting milestones, her output is good, and as long as she is gaining something and not losing. I figure as long as the number gets bigger, we're doing ok!

Panda is 10 lbs 14 oz and she was 8 lbs 3 oz and birth, lowest weight 7 lbs 13 oz. I'm not worried, all my babies were on the smaller size.

I'm actually surprised the dr didn't say anything, one lady in my local mama board took her baby in and they ran a whole slew of tests on him for slow gain. Her midwife even suggested she take enzymes.

If 1-2 pounds is average that means there are babies gaining less than that...and babies gaining more.

So, yes, I think you're being paranoid. Don't sweat it.

Good point about the average thing....I'll try not to worry and see how we go in the next month Thanks!

If she is already 13+ lb I would NOT be worried!!! Marissa was 9 lb, 8 oz at her appointment (7 weeks) 1.5 weeks ago, and I would be surprised if she has hit 10 lb yet. My other DD did the same thing, and was 16 lb 8 oz at 12 months. As long as she is eating well, giving you lots of output, and meeting milestones, I would say she is just fine.

My Willa is now 13lbs at 8 weeks (8.8 at birth).... but she was 12.5 lbs a few weeks ago so hasn't gained much in the last few weeks... no worries here at all...

Like it was said, it is an average... some gain more quickly, some gain less quickly. My third son was a fast gainer and gained 1 lb a week... (20 lbs at 10 weeks, 30 lbs at 6 months, 44 lbs at a year) Wilhelmina is gaining a lot less than that... but she is healthy, eating well, outputting well and is filling out... (my other two were a bit less than average also)

Maggie was 7lbs 12oz at birth and at 7 weeks was up to 12lbs 5oz. Haven't had her weighed since then though. All of mine have gained at totally different speeds.

she's gained 4# in 3mo - and that's from birthweight not lowest... I think she's doing great! I wouldn't worry. If she's eating well, has good output and meets milestones, of course.

Liam was 7 even at birth & now is 10lbs 14 ounces at 6 weeks.

Wow, there seems to be a really wide range of how fast/how much babies gain! I will try and "watch the baby, not the clock" or "the scale" in this case

Sophie's weight has been slow.. 8.13 at birth, 10.14 at 5 weeks, 10.15 at 6, 11.25 at 8, 11.5 at 9 and today is 11.55 at 9 weeks and 3 days.

But she's in the 50th percentile for everything, her outputs are great and is meeting her milestones. I've stopped worrying about it (the ukranian momma in me always gets worried about weight, lol) but my dr. asked if I considered topping up with formula. Needless to say I'm currently looking for a new doctor.
