OK, I teach dance to children very part time. So I hear, and sing and dance to kid's music a lot! And most of it I actually enjoy!
Just last thursday, my dd and I were arm-in-arm two-stepping our way from the parking lot to the Whole Foods singing "Mairsy doats and doesy doats, and little lambsy divey" (spelling?).
Also, "Dinosaur Rock and Roll" has become stuck in my mind more than once lately:
"Suddenly the music stopped
When T-rex broke down the door.
The dinosaurs, they held their breath
Until he moonwalked across the floor."
This may be somewhat off topic, but the song that will make me ROCK OUT more than almost any other is Aretha Franklin's "Respect"! A couple of weeks ago, on a beautiful early spring day I happened to tune in to a station, and "Respect" was just starting. I turned it up loud, started singing along, and danced as much as the seatbelt would allow. (I was completely stopped in traffic.) And believe me, I can dance a LOT even with a seat belt.
Well, my antics caught the eyes of several cars around me, including a car of three laughing teen girls right beside me. I made them my "audience" for part of the song - directing my actions towards them, eye contact, etc. My sun roof was open, and when the "sock it to me" part came, I put my arms through the opening and no longer confined my "car dancing" to the interior of my car. It was such fun!
The teens obviously enjoyed it, and waved when the light turned and we were finally able to drive off. I prefer to think that they were laughing WITH me, rather than AT me.
My 8yr old dd, in the back seat, didn't know whether to be proud of her middle-aged mama who can still boogie with the best, or embarassed because of the spectacle that I created. I think pride finally won out, because when we got home, she asked if I have that song (I do) and could I play it for her to dance to.
