Is it a coincidence?

I'm trying to figure out if my attempt to make our co-sleeper more comfortable back fired. Are babies very sensitive to their sleeping surface?

My once good sleeper has been waking up almost every hour for the past week. He wakes crying. This started the same day that I added some cushioning to his bed. But- he did have his first tooth pop through 10 days ago and he's just about 6 months (growth spurt?).

It will be a PITA to get it back to the original mattress (which was problematic to begin with). I'm just trying to figure out what's up with him. I feel bad for him and me!

PS* I did try both Tylenol and Motrin (different nights) to see if that would help. Nope.

Thanks!

I vote coincidence. In my experience, teeth comes in twos. I would think he's working on his second tooth.

Ha! There seems to be a trend going right now for October mamas and hourly crying babies at night.

My dd has always been VERY picky about the surfaces on which she sleeps. Not too smooshy, not too hard. She's like the Princess and the Pea! But, gosh, I don't know if that's it with your little guy or not. One quick thing we always did with our co-sleeper mattress was to take a stretchy waffle blanket and very tightly stretch it and tuck it over the top half. So that her face, chest and tummy were on the blanket. (It wasn't big enough to stretch down the whole way.) Actually, I just remembered that before that we used a thicket blanket that was softer. The original mattress was just too hard for her. And it was cold too. The blankets created a softer, warmer surface. It helped a lot.

I'm sure you'd consider this on your own, but I just wanted to be sure to mention that if you did try this that you have to pull the blanket SO super tight and tuck it under the mattress as much as it'll possibly go, just so there's no chance of it getting bunched up and comprimising his breathing. I KNOW you don't need me to say that, but I just would feel bad if someone tried it and didn't think about the dangers.
