Potty regression in five year old

Thread Starter
My five-year-old was having no problems with using the potty until about six months ago. Now she is constantly peeing in her pants and we have had to switch back to pull-ups. She lies about when she wets or if she has tried to go to use the potty. She will sit in her wet pull-up until it smells horrible. I am at a loss because there seems to be no medical and or psychological reason.

Any thoughts or advice?

If you've been able to switch her back to pull-ups, I'm guessing she's not in preschool now....could maybe talk up going to Kindergarten next year (where, of course--casually--kids don't wear pull-ups during the day). Or some other fun activity.

I still let my 5 yo wear a pull-up at night, but personally, in your position I'd bag them during the day and just take lots of changes of clothing with me. And then I think I'd back way off and try not to make a big deal of it. There must be *something* going on, if it's not medical, but it seems reasonable to expect that if she can't or won't talk about it, given time it will work itself out. My perspective is that of a mom whose kid didn't fully potty train until well past four. She had all the "readiness"--except for being willing to do it.

When did she potty train? When you say that there seems to be no medical/psychological reason for this, have you had her checked out for either?
