Just a happy note of encouragement to others.
My intact son, nearly 2.5 years old, had a red look to the tip of his foreskin, and it was worse the next day, so I GENTLY looked at it, retracting NOT over the glans, but just enough to see that there was white stuff coming out from under the foreskin.
A couple of white solid blobs of smegma (?) came out, and then he had a nice warm long soaky bath, and the next day, he was fine. No more redness or anything. I guess it happens, but it was no problem to take care of it in a commonsense and intuitive way.
