Where should he sleep?

Every night my 2 1/2 month old sleeps in his bouncer on the floor next to my bed, not in the crib. At first, we did this because he was soothed to sleep and slept longer when the bouncer was on, vibrating. Now, he's starting to out grow the bouncer, so we want to put him to sleep in the crib. When he's in the bouncer at night, he is swaddled and the straps are not used because they don't fit around the swaddle. Well, last night he woke up to eat and his body was hanging halfway off the bouncer, sliding down out of it, though he was not hurt, I about had a heart attack.

I have concerns for letting him sleep in the crib though. During the day, when he's on the floor on his play mat, he rolls onto his side, and turns his face INTO the floor, essentially smothering his face. I'm worried that he will do this in the crib, at night, when no one is watching.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do about this? I thought about either putting a blanket over him (not swaddled, so its only one layer) and then put the straps on him over the blanket when he's in the bouncer, or buying one of those things for the crib that prevents babies from rolling over, though I don't know if this would work because he turns his head, not his whole body.

Any suggestions?

DS does that also, pushing his face into the mat, but mostly because he is trying to roll over, and he has in fact, started rolling onto his tummy at night. He's not happy about it, but he likes sleeping on his side, so I think rolling to his tummy is an inevitable thing. I don't think i'd let him sleep in the bouncy for a long period of time, doesn't seem like it would be great for his back or hips, or even if that is not a concern, I know that I'd want to stretch out flat after a while.

You can try a sleep positioner, it may help, but I really think that if he is strong enough to turn his head that far, if it gets uncomfortable, he can fix himself. FWIW, DS can roll even when he's swaddled (back to side, and sometimes on to his belly).

is the crib in your room, or do you have a good monitor if it isn't? that way I think you'd hear him fuss if he were at all uncomfortable.

The crib is in our room.

When he puts his face in the floor during the day, he doesn't cry or make a loud fuss, he sometimes doesn't make any sound, and sometimes he vocalizes, but its muffled, so I don't think I would hear it if I were sleeping, and that has me worried. Though, he does fix it himself sometimes and just turns his head back the right way, but sometimes he doesn't.
