Help me get her unlatched, please.

When we nurse to nap/sleep, usually I can nurse my LO for 15 or so minutes and then pop her off, sneak away, etc. Lately, she's been clamping down (six teeth) and I CANNOT unlatch her. And I also cannot stay there while she naps, I *need* that break.

I tried breaking the suction in the corner of her mouth. She ends up waking up, and only getting a 15 minute micro-nap. Any tricks? Please help!!! I am so discouraged, I want to stop nursing to sleep because I work so hard to get things just right and help her fall asleep and then it all gets ruined when I try to unlatch her.

Hmm. I have always unlatched my son, when needed, by sticking my little finger of the opposite hand of whichever side he's nursing into the corner of his mouth and back between his gums. (Whew, that made a long sentence!) It took a little practice to learn but he can't clamp down because the finger's between his gums. It helps if you wet your finger first.

That doesn't really help with the waking up though. Maybe try unlatching earlier? I have to find that magic timing--too early and he roots for the nipple again, too late and he's had the dreaded micro-nap and wakes up.

I hope others have helpful advice. That sounds really rough!

I always had a hard time breaking the latch by sticking my finger in the corner of baby's mouth... What I do now is bring my finger up underneath his lip and kind of slowly wiggle it in... Hard to describe, I guess. He usually sleeps through that, though.
