I have experiemented with a homemade oil facial cleanser, but I would like to find something that is not so "oily". Anyone make your own? Do share please!

subbing in! I'm with you! I am currently using "OCM", but there are times when I need a quick wash (like to remove make up on the occasions I wear it) or just something light before bed...But I haven't yet found a recipe that works for that kind of "soap"
Can't wait to read replies!

I use honey but I have never attempted to make my own cleanser. If anyone has any good recipes though I would def. be interested in attempting to make my own!

What does "OCM" stand for?

I know people who use honey or yogurt to great results. I currently use soap out of laziness. I keep meaning to try yogurt or honey though.

"OCM" = Oil control method = cleaning with oil (I cannot begin to tell how it all works, but there are LOTS of good links through MDC). I can tell you that I have VERY oily skin usually, and OCM has worked VERY well for me.
Also, I used honey for awhile (and LOVED it) but developed a rash (unrelated) that is pretty much a yeast / thrush (and nearly all over my face So, I stopped using the honey as I was not sure if it was or could be worsening the rash. I have heard of / read of using yogurt, but have not tried it.
I've made a "cleanser" that I used prior to the honey, but it left my skin feeling as or more oily than ever.
So, I'm still looking for a good facial cleanser recipe!

I've been using raw, organic honey--it works great!

I also use a homemade cleanser to mimic Dr. Hauschka cleansing cream. It's almond meal, jojoba oil, almond oil, witch hazel, and essential oils.

I've been making my own facial cleanser for 5 years now. It's a recipe by Rosemary Gladstar from her book The Family Herbal. It is made from oatmeal, white clay, dried roses, dried lavender and almonds. I have oily skin and found this recipe works well. You just mix a little of the grains with water and wash. Easy peasy...

Cool!
I have been using honey and I like it a lot. I also use Dr. Hauschka cleansing cream, and now you've inspired me to try and make my own! Thanks!

I also saw a recipe in one of Rosemary Gladstar's books for a cleansing powder that you add water to and use in a similar way to the Dr. Hauschka cream--I can't remember all the ingredients but it had oats, clay, almond meal, etc.

Oh! I missed this post earlier. This must be the recipe I saw but haven't tried. I keep meaning to try it out! I love that book.

Does this turn your face orange/yellow? I love turmeric but it definitely stains my hands when I cook with it. My indian friend says that her aunts in India use turmeric as some kind of depilatory facial-- have you heard of this?

I have also tried the recipee from Rosemary gladstar, I have concocted my own version that I add honey and coconut oil to, (a few other ingredients I don't want to share on such large scale as I am growing a business). My concern is the "scubbers", I love the recipe and the way my face feels, but I wonder about it being too much scrubbing for a daily routine. I know that estheticians recomend very mild cleansers, a milk base for instance, that does not foam. Our skin is delicate and I like the idea of the OCM as it does not strip away too much. However after a while, in my experience, my face felt cakey and not clean enough. Soo I guess I am on a mission to find a cleansing base that does not strip, but cleanses, genlty. I am finding it a difficult thing to find.

Interesting. I"ve never heard of the OCM idea. I'm almost 23 and still get pimples on a regular basis, ugh, so I use a water + baking soda + ground up aspirins (for the salycylic acid) mixed to a consistency of shampoo. But this book: Making your place affordable: sustainable nesting skills by Raleigh Briggs has tons of ideas!
