Remedy for Insomnia while breastfeeding

Hi,

I have been prescribed a sleeping pill by my doctor (zopiclone) as I have been having insomnia for the past 3 months. I can get to sleep but wake up at around 3:30 and then am up for the rest of the night. Last night, I woke up at 11:40 pm and didn't get back to sleep.

I would prefer not to use the sleeping pills but at this point, I am sick, over-tired, dealing with grief, two children under the age of 3 and am about to lose it if I don't at least 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep. At this point, I am considering stopping co-sleeping, putting my 7 month old on a bottle and going for the cry it out method as I am at my wit's end.

I'm sorry you are dealing with insomnia, I know how debilitating it can be.
Here's what I found on Lunesta (brand name of zoplicone)

It is not listed in Hale's forum info, I don't know about his book. However, I found a couple links on it
In this one http://www.drugs.com/mmx/zopiclone.html it says the breast milk levels are 50% of plasma levels and it is not recommended, but it also says it is eliminated in about 5 hours so if he is not nursing at night it would be ok.

Hope you get some sleep with it.

Thanks! I am trying a magnesium supplement first. Let's hope it works.

I hope the magnesium helps! Someone told me try valerian capsules too but it smelled so horrible I just couldn't take them.
My son has good results with melatonin supplements.
