Need help planning history trip Boston to Virginia

I am SOOO excited. I just convinced my husband that we should take our tax refund money and take our crazy history fanatic DS(7.5) on a Colonial Times/Revolutionary War road trip.

We live in Massachusetts and are planning on going Saturday to Sunday (so 9-10 days). I am looking for suggestions on where to stop, what to see, etc.

We also have a DS 3.5 and DD 18 months, so that would need to be taken into consideration, although one of us could always find an alternative activity for the wee ones (any suggestions on those as well).

I have not had much time to really look into yet but here is what we are thinking. We have already done Plimoth Plantation and hiked the Freedom Trail in Boston. So we are thinking of going to the big Patriot's Day Re-enactment in Concord (Battle Road) April 18-19, then heading down to Philly (to see the Liberty Bell, Indepedence Hall, etc) for a day, then stop over in Washington for a day (I know you could spend forever there but we are planning that for a seperate trip, so just a day to break up the drive, what would you suggest seeing in just a day??) Then down to Williamsburg and Jamestown - this is what we really want him to see, but have never been so any adivce would be awesome.

Thanks! I will be spending the weekend researching so any input would be awesome.

Given your theme, I'd go to Mount Vernon on your day in DC. But if your youngest ones want a break from colonial stuff, I'd go to the Museum of Natural History and look at the dinosaurs.

It's not "colonial" but you might have fun visiting Amish country too, or stopping in Gettysburg.

You might consider a visit to Valley Forge, outside of Philadelphia, as it's one of the major Revolutionary War sites.

Old Sturbridge Village near Worcester though that might make for a good day trip another time too.

Thanks for your input! I had not thought of Valley Forge, or Mount Vernon. GREAT ideas. What would you consider to be the best zoo or petting farm around those areas? My DD wil need to burn off some steam without getting tempted by a bunch of stuff she can't touch.

What about Roanoke, NC? The Lost Colony history and mystery could be super interesting to him!

I can't think of anything close to Valley Forge along those lines, but the place is huge. There is lots of opportunity to run around, and it doesn't have a formal "don't touch" kind of vibe outside of the visitor center. I used to fly kites there as a kid.

It is located right near the massive King of Prussia shopping center, which has lots of places to eat, but nothing I can think of in terms of "entertainment."
