Is it possible to dye cotton balls?

I would like them to be yellow for a craft project I want to do with my students. Any way I an do this? I mean, I am thinking that if I put food coloring on them it will break them down somehow. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd say to use RIT dye as it says on the label OR soak in warm water and Turmeric (a yellow spice). Just be gentle with them and don't do it in the washing machine of course.

I just saw a yellow cotton balls chick in an egg carton piece eggshell at the library and thought of you, did the dyeing work out?

A little late, but alcohol based inks in a spritz bottle work well. I get mine in the scrapbooking section of craft stores.

I didn't get to try it because we had a free week instead because we had so many extra students due to spring break. Now I need to come up with another cotton ball craft to test out the dying suggestions
