Did solids help with sleep? - Page 2

Solids didn't make a difference with DD. Night weaning at 20 MO and generally maturing as she reached 2 YO is what made a difference for her.

No and Yes.

DS was all ready sleeping through the night but woke up at 6 a.m., maybe a bit before. During the day he nursed a lot and would wake up ravenously hungry. Starting solids coincided with his activity level increasing and I think it helped him sleep longer, waking up at 7 or 7:30, and not nearly as hungry.

Nightweaning was the only that that has ever really noticeably helped with sleeping. Started solids at 9 months (but he hardly wanted it) and didn't nightwean until 2nd birthday. I was TIRED!

Nope. DS2 night nursed all night until I weaned him. Eating solids made no difference at all. Perhaps it would have if we didn't cosleep?

I didn't notice any changes.

No change w/DD, got worse w/Ds1 - though i think it was related to the crawling/teething and not the food, so much.

On the flip side my little guy is almost 8 months, exclusively BFed (we haven't started solids yet!), and he sleeps through the night most nights. Weird, eh? I think it's all just temperament. My other kids weren't such awesome sleepers at this age.

Nope, solids did not help sleep one bit.

My first was a good sleeper in general so I didn't notice then. But with dd2 heck yeah! She still wakes up about 3-4 times a night but she gives me a 4-5 hour stretch (I am not in bed during most of it, but its still nice) then maybe another 4 hour. We have only been doing solids for 3 or 4 weeks and it wasn't instant, but I think it helped.

Same here! We started BLW around 7 months, and she started actually eating sizeable portions around 10.5 months; now at 11 months, DD is still waking about every 2 hours to nurse!

Nope. She actually seems more restless at night now at 9 months than when she was 3-4 months old. Go figure.

nope. sorry. Sometimes I am amazed at how much food she eats in the evening thinking for sure she will be sleeping, but nope, she wakes up. DD usually sleeps through the night though and we are not sure why she wakes up some times and not others. I really wish I knew the answer, but DD has not woken up to nurse/eat since she was three months old. Then starting at nine months, she started waking up, mostly to cry and complain. We suspect teething, although no teeth yet.

From my own personal experience of my own body, I do not sleep very well on a full tummy. If I thought more food would help, I would add it at the feeding prior to the last feeding at night. That way she has calories without a big lump of food in her tummy at night which she may not be able to digest very well.
