Medicaid: Can you live with parents and receive Medicaid?

my family needs to move back to my DH's hometown while he completes his rotations for Pharm school. We will live with his mom, and if I become pregnant, I might have to quit work (I've had multiple losses and am very high risk). Is it possible to get Medicaid for me while living in a home that wouldn't qualify? Do I need to count my MIL's income? My DH and I will have NO income; only the loans he receives for school.

i did when i was younger. I was 19 and a single mom to one daughter and we were living iwth my parents and on medicaid. I don't remember how that worked but I think it might be like food stamps in that if you live together but are two separate families it's okay(kinda like on food stamps if you prepare and eat separately but just live together). But I'm positive you can.

Kind of a reverse situation. My mother had to quit her job (health reasons) and live with us for a period before she was eligible for SS. We were paying everything for her, no income. Obviously she was not pregnant or have dependents. She was not able to get Medicaid because of our income. I don't know how it would work if a parent were supporting a child, but it didn't work the other way around. This has been several years. Also, doesn't it depend on the State? Not sure. She's living with us again and has Medicare now.

Pregnancy is considered a special condition. If your MIL does not provide any income to you (meaning, you buy groceries, etc), then her income won't count towards it. When we got pregnant with ds2, we were living with MIL rent free, and we still qualified--we only had to count our income. The thing is, they 'cap' the amount of money you need to live on to a ridiculously small amount (at least here in this HCOL place). For food, rent & transportation, they capped it at a max of $900 a month. Mind you, renting a room in a house is about $500 a month, give or take. Bus passes for both are $100 a month. So that would leave us $300 a month for groceries, clothing, everything else. For a family of 4, it's $1100. But this is in Cali.

Thanks ladies.

I think I am going to call Kansas and find out from the Medicaid office, because I think it varies state to state. I hope that this thread may help someone else living in KS someday, so I will definitely post here again and let you know what they say.
