we went last night and really enjoyed the movie (dd's are 9 and 7). not sure it would be great for the younger group because of some of the action scenes but overall a good watch.

dd1 came home and has been drawing vikings and dragons...

We just saw this yesterday and my four year old LOVED it. She wasn't scared, just really excited. At one point she blurted out THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!! It was just so much FUN. Now I want to see it in 3d (it would be too much for her in 3d) and get all the books. I am not a huge fan of kids movies, but I really really enjoyed this one.

oops I guess it's 'How to train your dragon'

Huh. My son loved these books (there are three). But I have to say I think most kids movies are so drecky (what with all the bathroom humor, the nudge-nudge innuendoes for the benefit of parents, etc. that we hardly ever go to current kid's fare. I'd hesitate to spoil his good memories of the book by going to see this. But I'll be interested to see what others have to say.

Hmm, might check it out! thanks

I completely loved this movie...and, oh yeah, so did the kid.

He's 5.6 and just loved all the different dragons...was all riled up during the fight scene towards the end.

Very good. I was a little qwimmed when they started downing the kiddo for not being like everyone else, but I like how it was played out.

I wasn't aware that they were books first, but I'll def go and look for them now.

I REALLY wish we would have seen it in IMAX. THAT would have been really awesome.

We saw it today in 3D and LOVED it. Ds was SO excited to see it and came out of it just as excited! This is a really great movie.

We took my son (3y4m) to see it in 3D last night....we all loved it

Never mind my 5 year old son, I want to watch this film too

I took my 17yo, 11yo, and 4yo to see it yesterday. We all loved it! 17yo DS said it was the best movie he'd seen in a long time and he's usually a very tough critic. I would be very happy to see it again.

Saw it with our 15 y.o. and 11 y.o. We all loved it.

I took my 6yo DD and saw it in 3D. I loved it. My DD enjoyed it but found it a bit intense. The dragons WERE scary. I left my 3.5 yo at home- she would have been too scared.

The film thankfully isn't full of innuendo (though there are two kisses and some pretty mild flirting between the teenage characters) and has no product placement. The movie has some good values like accepting others for who they are, using brains instead of fighting, using creative problem solving, cooperation and teamwork, and being kind to animals.

Loved it. Took my almost 4 ds and 6 yo dd. They LOVED it!! I think DP enjoyed it the best.

I just got back from seeing it with my 17 yo ds, 14 yo ds, and several friends ranging in age from 4 to 28. We all LOVED it!

So glad to hear all of the great reviews! I want to take my just turned 3 year old who I think would love it as long as he could sit on my lap during the really intense scenes. I think he will be fine, and I REALLY want to see it!

wow you guys. is it worth it watching it on the big screen or should i just wait for the dvd?

dd 7 went and saw it with some of my friends and they ALL loved it. i havent had a chance to go see it. i have a limited movie budget so i have to pick and choose which ones i will watch on the big screen.

meemee, it's worth seeing on the big screen.

I'm surprised people are taking such young children to see it, though. I thought it was a little intense even for my 7 yo.

It's worth seeing on the big screen. The dragons are bigger that way!

My 13 year old, 11 year old, and I all loved the film. You gotta love a little island full of vikings with scottish accents. The main character doesn't fit in, but the ways in which he is different turn out to be for the best. Very fun film, very nice message.

THANK YOU everyone. i will go watch it on the big screen.

see A&A when you make a comment like this, i realise how much of my dd i dont really know. they just surprise you all the time with this growing up stuff. rather i hold on to this image of dd but its changing fast all the time and i am not keeping up with it.

my dd wanted to watch a harry potter at 5. i was shocked. i hadent even read the books to her as i thought she wouldnt be ready. well her dad had. even though she had seen spiderman i thought no way harry potter - and then on the big screen.

she LOVED it. what?!!!! how did that happen. she did find places scary but was able to cope with it. this is my super sensitive child whose books and movies i had to carefully monitor when she was younger.

however she cant deal with suspense even now.

It was a bit too intense for my 5 year old DD, and I saw about 10 kids leave the theater while we were waiting for friends once we left too. I think it depends on your child's personality
