Had it with synthetics, 100% cotton CD suggestions??

Okay, so here's my vent:
I have been using synthetic CD for 4 years and 3 babies. I am sooo tired of their high maintenance. "Do I need to strip them?" "Am I using enough soap?" "Am I using too much soap?" "Honey! You dried the diapers on WHAT heat setting?!?!" Most recently, while browsing here on MDC, I found out that urine doesn't always completely wash out of synthetic diapers and it leaves behind a residue. When that residue is mixed with the "fresh" urine, it forms a substance similiar to amonia! It totally explained why, on occasion, I have had strong smelling diapers and my babies sometimes get red marks on their diaper area similiar to chemical burns!! So, I decided I'd had it. I'm now switching to 100% cotton. I'm totally willing to use flats and pre-folds with covers if need be, but can you recommend any 100% cotton diapers similiar to AIOs? Also, do they make any 100% cotton liners. That will be handy if I choose the go with flats. As always, thanks so much for your valued opinions!!

Prefolds and flats are awesome.

Everything Blue Penguin makes is 100% natural fibers.

Mother-ease makes fitteds in organic cotton.

Osocozy makes 100% cotton fitteds and AIO's with cotton inners.

Growing Greens, Snug-to-fit, Kissaluvs organic, Under the Nile, Snugglebottoms...are other fitteds I can think of.

You could get a custom Very Baby or Bum-ware with cotton on the inner. Bumkins AIO's have cotton inners, too.

Juliacat- You know your stuff!

Let me also add that while I had cotton in mind, any natural material will do.

Thanks!

I love prefolds

and cannot say enough good things about DREAMEZE. I love the fitteds, and they have a new AIO that looks super cute.

AIO aren't for me, but we've had super good luck with the fitteds.

I just looked at the Dream-Eze and I like them a lot. It says the fitteds are made with 100% organic cotton fleece: Is this fleece on the inside or the outside?

Carmel23- Can I ask why you don't like AIOs? It's such a drastic difference from what I normally hear. I do like flats and prefolds, but I also like the convenience of AIOs. Even fitteds with a cover aren't bad. Naturally, your comment has perked my interest and made me wonder... Am I missing something?

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions! I am having so much fun looking at all of these wonderful diapers!

The whole thing is fleece. On the ones I have, the exterior of the diaper is the smooth side of the fleece while the doublers inside are the fuzzy side of the fleece. And I'll agree with the pp - I LOVE my Dream-Eze.

My entire stash is natural fibers - and there are a lot of items I really like. UtN prefolds in a Disana Tie Nappy, Sustainable Babyish's OS pin dipe, Bububebe OS, Muttaquin 3SR, Goodmama... I have probably a dozen different brands in my stash. But right now the bulk of my stash is Dream-Eze.

I love GMD and all the wonderful choices they have.

I love my prefolds/fitteds under covers. It's actually much simplier to me than dealing with AIO or pockets. Easier to change, easier to wash. No stink issues I it

My favorites are Crickett's Diapers - I have both the hemp and the cotton, and the hemp is the best.

BumGenius makes an organic cotton OS AIO. The ladies on diaperswappers seem to love it. hth

I'm guessing that "fleece" is just a description of the texture of the cotton.

You can also buy from a wahm- some will make pockets/aio's with organic inner material. Rainshine Designs is great to work with, and IIrc, she has lots of options.

I am totally into flats these days. I was intimidated by them before our guy was born (all that folding seemed so complicated!) but I had a dozen just in case. And I love them. The origami fold is super easy and perfect for a boy - seriously, it takes no more time than putting on a prefold or a fitted) and they're trim, you can double them up if needed, or just tuck a doubler into the wet zone, they fit under regular clothes... AND they are so so easy to wash and dry! Drying in particular is a big thing: some of my fitteds take over an hour and a half in the dryer to really dry! Flats dry in a flash. And there's just no way for them to get stinky - no layers upon layers, no synthetic fibers.

Not Carmel, obviously, but I don't like AIOs, either. Yes, they're convenient and easy to put on, but what I didn't realize before I had a baby to diaper was how big of a factor ease of washing and drying is, if you do your own diaper laundry. I just feel like it's really hard to get AIOs clean with my normal wash routine (hot wash, two cold rinses), and I'm not willing to get into complicated stripping or soaking or whatever... I feel like that starts to remove some of the ease of CDing as well as the purported environmental benefits. Just my opinion!

Add me to the list of not loving AIO's. They take too long to dry, and it seems like it would be harder to get them clean- they have lots of layers, and water can't get all the way through, because one side is PUL.

I really like flats for ease of washing and fast drying, but I don't snappi or pin, so I use them as inserts in pockets or "trifolded" in covers.

My very favorite combo right now is a fitted under fleece pants. I use pretty thin fitteds because I change after every pee (if I don't ds gets a rash), so they wash well and dry in one cycle.

I use many different types of diapers, both synthetic and non. I've had good luck with mother-ease. I like the MEOS and their all-in-one. The aio seems to clean well. It's not super thick, so it doesn't take really long to try. I thought that meant it might not hold a lot but I've actually never had a leak with it, and you can always add a doubler if you need the extra absorbancy. Same with the MEOS. Not super thick but you can add a doubler if you need it.

I love pf's with a little baby, but now that my babe is really wiggly it's my very last choice. By the time I have it ready to snappi in place, he's already scooted back and out of it. I'm converting all my pf's to fitteds and I loooove them. It's actually my favorite diaper right now and those are the first ones I go thru when they come out of the wash.

we really like our cricketts diapers, and also our clovers under wool. i also love our prefolds, and although they can be difficult to snappi on when dd is wanting to wiggle, we are still able to use them much of the time and its definitely worth having them. we have not had luck with trifolding with dd2. the fit just isn't right on her (gives her saggy diaper bum)- however i loved it with dd1!

I made all my daughter's cloth diapers from scraps & bits of cotton fabric- old t-shirts, flannel sheets, towels, pajamas, mens dress shirts. I just sewed them into sloppy diaper-sized rectangles. They were a bit bulky and perhaps only medium-attractive but they worked awesome and I never felt bad about just throwing away especially nasty/foul (left in the hot car all week) ones because they were so cheap.

You can make your own fitted diapers or flats.

then for the pretty use wool. It breathes, you don't wash it but every two weeks, and it is super cute.

A non snynthetic AiO will wick. Much diaper making has taught me ANY time you put PUL next to an absorbant fabric you will get some amount of leakage.

We never get buildup or stink with fitteds and wool. Never.

Tiny Tush makes a one size cotton fitted that's available in organic also. Very budget friendly too. I also like the dream eze but those are sized.
