I love Kai!

It is hard to pick a name. But I bet once you choose one, you'll think 'of course, this is who he is' and not be able to imagine him being named anything else, KWIM?

I love Kai! Would have been on my list but DH is not a fan :rollseyes

Cavan reminds me a little too much of all the -an and -en names that are so popular these days: Aiden Braden Caden Jayden, et al. But that's just me.

Just look at him. Ask G-d to help you in your dreams. Goto bed with intention to dream the name. Which sounds or concepts come to you when you look at him?

lol. This is why I like having a short list before the birth...then we've got things narrowed down and just need to match the name to the baby. Of course the entire pregnancy I'm getting in touch with the little being to see what I think and feel to narrow down on a name.

In Judaism, it is said that parents get a bit of Divine Providence at the time of naming their children. In other words, the name will come to them (perhaps to the exclusion of all other names, perhaps jumping out at you, perhaps not...) and it will be the right name for the soul.

Well I am obviously going to be partial to Kai. My babe's name is Malachi and we call him Kai for short. I have liked it so far I think it is hard because he still doesn't seem like a name to me. But each day he is more and more "Malachi" to me. Don't know if that makes sense? Names can be hard but we love ours!

I love love love Kai too - for the way it sounds and what it means. A couple other Hawaiian names we had on our list were:
Banyan - tree of life
Kaleo (ka lay o) - the voice
Love them - husband veto-d...feel free to use

Naming is soooo hard! After having 3 babes, I learned that you need to pick what YOU love and not listen to others opinions on it - everyone is going to be able to rhyme it with something not so nice...or know someone who had that name that was mean, dorky, ugly...whatever. I got lots of remarks - good and bad - for my babes and I still love all of their names! My 3 are - Elijah Blue, Kenji Wild and Tanner Evan - so far, their names suit them perfectly

Oops, I was reading Cavan with a short "a" sound - and was thinking it was going to get confused with Kevin a lot. Of the two, I like Kai better.

My cousin just became a daddy and he named his son Kai. Personally, I don't like it, but that's just my opinion. I like a totally different style of names. You mentioned Cavan sounds like Raven. I think Raven would make an awesome name! That's where I'm at on the two.

I dont like Cavan either, but u know what? F-me! Seriously. If this is the name that comes up over and over, maybe that is what it should be. Everyone else will get used to it, deal w/ it, and very likely come to love it, because its his.

I love Kai. It was my number 1 name for my son, except partner did not like it at all. It was well received by most friends though. It has many lovely meanings.


We handed in the name forms for our baby girl on day 23 of her life. We did call an hour later to change her middle name but they said it was too late, the information had already been entered and it became a legal document. We will have to go to family court to change it, if we still feel the need.

Keep searching for the right name...you might not call him the name for a while, that may take some warming up. I keep telling myself that, for my daughter...although we have the name that we like, I dont feel that she and the name have connected yet...same thing happened with my son.

Hmmm...honestly I don't like either, but I tend to like traditional names, so no wonder! If I had to pick, I'd choose Kai, but it looks like you've decided against that one. You'll find a name and it will be just perfect

Hi - I'm a lurker but I just felt compelled to tell you that as soon as I saw the picture of your little angel I thought of the name Coen (or Cohen). It means 'brave'. I love 'C' names for boys. Good luck
