As an aside, has anyone noticed there is like NO cloth diaper scene here at all? I have seen that website before and was surprised to learn that anyone was actually CDing here! When I asked my midwife about cloth, all she knew of were the old-fashioned wool ones. I live in Cologne, a relatively 'liberal' city, and have yet to encounter anyone using cloth. I'll admit I don't know a ton of people, but still. I have the feeling it is very very rare to use cloth here.

Anyone else?

it's actually very common in the "crunchy community" here. people are just not as organized online as american mamas are in general. germans are horrible with web presences.
and the german mamas use different styles of diapers mostly. prefolds basically don't exist here and AIOs aren't very common. generally there are less synthetic fibers being used. most often CD families stick to cotton and wool. there are diaper services in just about all larger cities, too.

Haha, yeah, no kidding with Germans not being hip to web presence. Half the people I talk to- young to middle aged, educated, urban people- do not even know what a blog is!
Â
I think in general Germans are definitely not as organized -either on or offline- with getting together as parents or with being AP or whatever. In fact, I think I may go start a new topic here so we can discuss this, b/c I'm curious what others have found. Thanks for the idea!
PLEASE let me in to your "organizing the non-organized Germans"! Â Ha ha ha, I just moved to Berlin from San Francisco, and am having a really hard time with this! Â
My other email: christinaderocher@gmail.com  Seriously, I could add my two cents, join in, enjoy, or whatever!
Â
Thanks,Christina

ps. seriously thinking about going the CD route now, being here. Â They have nothing like Tushies back home: even Wiona and the other "good" brand have those pesky gels in them! Â :/

I'm not in Germany but in Austria and cloth diapers are fairly common, especially the Popolini brand http://www.popolini.com/. There are often fairly new sets for sale on ebay.at. I think the city of Vienna even gives out vouchers for cloth diaper purchases in their hospital welcome package, resulting in plenty of new cloth diapers on ebay.
Alas, I do not think there is a diaper service.
