i don't know about the fasting, as i think pp's are correct about the release of toxins.
other things to think about: i have read numerous things that suggest that while the content of your breastmilk remains the same regardless of your nutritional intake, your body will start to pull nutrients from bones, etc. if you aren't getting adequate nutrition.
however, as far as supply goes, i had to do a TED and rapidly - and i do mean rapidly-- lost enough weight for this chunky mama to be viewing her shrinking body with some concern... but even though my nutrition or food intake hasn't been what i would feel comfortable with, my supply is still fine. i haven't really ever heard of anyone losing supply due to inadequate food- i think it might have to get really bad before that happens.
i don't know about the older child and solids, though.
is there a way you can modify your eating so that you are not completely fasting and you are getting enough protein and fat? i'd be afraid to try the fast just because of toxins and the potential damage to your bones.
