Postpartum cravings?

I am CRAVING sweets (specifically baked goods). I can't get enough... normally I'm not a sweets-type person, and I almost never like brownies (generally would prefer to eat a chunk of chocolate than diluted chocolate that is a brownie), but I'm just CHOWING on them. Ice creammmmmm. Someone brought over a pie, and I'm dying to just eat the rest of it. We bought a birth-day (cheese)cake for Avery so that the kids could celebrate... I ate most of it... we celebrated monday, it was gone by wednesday night

Dh says I did this last time, too... tell me I'm not the only one!

I swear I have more cravings NOW than I did while pregnant! But I think it's because I finally feel *normal*! During pregnancy I have HUGE food AVERSIONS (not really cravings), but now that I can actually eat?!?! And eat without the pain/agony of heartburn/acid reflux?! Oh.. I'm chowing down (eek)!!

Mostly, it's dairy goods. I really think it's because I developed some sort of intolerance for dairy during pregnancy (a latte would make my stomach churn and I'd nearly be doubled over from pain)... but now? I could drink a bazillion lattes (even a rich and creamy breve!) and chocolate milk by the gallons... and I would simply sit back and smile....

Oh, and I could REALLY use a blueberry scone right now... or maybe a dozen? That *might* fill me up... but I"m not sure... lol

I'm with you on the sweets!!! I didn't want them at all the entire pregnancy and I usually have a reasonable sweet-tooth... and now, I could eat cookies, cakes, donuts, whatever for an entire meal. I think I've cleared the house out of all the sweets we had on hand, which dh had appreciated not having any consumption competition, but now I'm wondering when he or dd1 are going to make some more cookies or something.

I'm also just starving too, but I knew that would happen as well. So much for my birth weight loss strategy (last two births, I've lost twice what I gained after birth) when I go through this after birth.

I was totally into (as you who are fb friends know) root beer floats for the last couple months (uh, maybe that's why I had a baby that was 9 and a half lbs ), but those are out, now, in favor of baked goods...

All food, my stomach must have doubled in size in the past couple weeks! But baked good are also a huge craving. I made a mixed berry cobbler yesterday, and am seriously considering making some brownies now. And muffins. Mmmmm....

so, the power of suggestion seems to be quite strong... and I'm dragging my four-year-old down with me.. lol

We took a walk (Lucy walking, Hazel in the faux Moby I made) and *gasp* got a package of Rolos and some Mocha Frappuccino (sp? I don't have the container here) ice cream... *swoon*. Not baked, but they're nice. and. sweet.

my 4 year old is a total sweets fiend - i'm just a pushover lately, so maybe she's dragging *me* down

ETA... I *did* buy some haagen dazs (is that spelled right?) ice cream the other day... two kinds, but, you know, it was 2 for $6, so how can I turn the second one down? LOL

Is it because of breastfeeding?? My childbirth class teacher said to expect to get waaaay more hungry waaaay faster than we did while pregnant if we are breastfeeding. It would make sense that our bodies would want fast and easy glucose and carbs! I wouldn't know, I'm still pregnant!!

I am with you on the sweets. I have a huge sweet tooth but when I am pregnant I crave savoury things.

When I was breastfeeding DS 1 at the begining it was cookies and with DS 2 it is Cadbury mini eggs. I can't get enough. DH came home from the grocery store the other day with a 1 kg bag and I said I would never be able to finish it and .... it is gone. (mind you he did help).

There must be some reason for it. I had no interest in sweets throughout pregnancy but now I only want food that's sweet. Savoury has no appeal. Even when I eat good healthy cereal I've been dumping sugar on it. I think there must be a physical reason why our bodies are doing this.

This would be my guess. Unfortunately, if it's like last time, I'll gain weight despite the breastfeeding - everyone says you lose down to your prepregnancy weight easier/faster if you breastfeed, but considering I only gained 15 lbs last time, giving birth was enough to get me below my prepreg weight. Then I gained back up to where I was post-partum the first time (about 5 lbs up from where I was before I ever got pregnant)

often times the body gets confused and sends sugar cravings when it really needs protein/fat. So ladies, make sure you're eating enough protein and healthy fats - it may just take care of the cravings!

Does a peanut butter and nutella sandwich count as protein? Those have been my go-to sweet when we don't have anything else... which is most of the time b/c we're generally a savory-snack kind of family.

I am definately more hungry now and am craving sugary/fatty things, but I also have an aversion to milk...which I couldn't get enough of while pregnant. Go figure.

T1H-

yep, craving things here too. Juice, which I never drink. Yesterday, anything w/ vitamin c. The first few days I polished off costco brownie bites, muffins, and ice cream.

I was positively ravenous after my oldest was born 6 years ago. With my last 2 pregnancies I've had hunger/cravings, but it has at least been a little more reasonable. With my oldest I could have eaten us out of house and home

Yes! I bought grapefruit juice yesterday, which we pretty much never have in the house, so I'm with you on the juice and vitamin c...

Sweets here too, and SALT!

Not craving but I'm enjoying things I hate, eggs. I will happily say my tastebuds are back to normal! All pregnancy so many of my favorite things have tasted off, now I'm back to normal.

I've been debating things like whether I should wait til the kids go to bed to snarf down a piece of pie - b/c i don't wanna share...
