Infant shivers

My five month old recently started shaking his head. It looks like when you shake your head "no," but I don't think he's shaking his had "no." He has in the past done this when he has a hat on or when he has something in his mouth that he rubs his gums on. Also, he has these little shivers like he is taking a chill. Are these normal? I'm really getting worried.

If I were worried I'd get it on video and take it to the pediatrician/someone who would be able to figure out if it might be something like seizures or it's just baby stuff. My son loved to rub his head on things (like no). He liked the feel of stuff I think. And kids can also cold chill shiver and sometimes shiver when they pee too. So there are lots of benign explanations for what you describe. If he's himself (not fussy, tired, etc.) after I think that's reassuring that it's not a concern. Still I'd video it just to put my mind at ease.

The baby I nanny for was doing that quite frequently when she was little, getting these little all over shakes. We got her to do it again for her pediatrician, and he said that it was just a sign of an immature nervous system, like when little kids get so excited that they literally can't sit still. Doc said she should grow out of it by puberty, but to keep an eye on it. He said it wouldn't be seizures unless baby seemed like she checked out, which she never did. She's 15 months now, and I don't think she does it anymore. I would agree with PP, get it on film unless you think you can get you LO to do it for the doctor. Good luck Mama, we were very concerned until we chatted with the Ped.
