Do you think this would be okay?

I've started a homeschool blog. I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up with it, but I love reading other homeschool blogs. I love the ideas and inspiration as well as the useful info and links. I plan to use Writing With Ease Level 1 next year. I borrowed the book from the library to sample it and I like what I see. I intend to purchase the text, but not the workbooks. The workbooks basically save time and effort. The WWE text is for levels 1-4. There are basic directions to follow to select your own copywork for the lessons, ie. Pick a sentence with a proper noun. The workbooks lay it all out for you in one book for each level, the lesson and the copywork. I have made a book list for myself to correspond with the books used for Level 1. I plan to select all of my own copywork. I intend to borrow the books from the library and have them laying around just in case the narrations spark an interest in reading the book. I also intend to select the copywork from the books wherever possible. WWE also says it is okay to make up your own sentence that fits the criteria. My question is would it be alright to publish my book list and list of selected copywork to my blog? I will have never seen the workbook. I don't think this is infringing on copyright, right? I'm not sure how it would be. Is it ethical? I'm wondering because there is the published workbook. Mine wouldn't be copied from it at all, but my selections would selected with the WWE Text in mind, following the criteria it lies out. Idk? Any opinions?

There are a lot of bloggers out there who totally copy book lists and more. I don't feel that straight out copying is ethical, so I wondered this myself.

I then emailed the publisher (same publisher as WWE) and they said as long as I don't 100% copy the lists they worked hard on (add a few books/leave a few out), that it should be okay.

Thanks for replying . That makes sense. The WWE text doesn't specify certain books for the most part, but I was thinking of using mostly the books used in the workbooks. You can see the table of contents online to see what books are used for the workbook. Of course my narration and following questions and copywork selected would be different from the workbook because I'll not have seen it. If I could afford to spend the $30 a year for two students each year I would definitely buy the workbooks! Hmm, so I guess it would be okay to use some of the books, leave some off, and add some in. That's probably what I'd do anyway. I may even decide to use the children's history, science, or other literature as the WWE text suggests as well.

Hmmm. I've been reading more on copyright laws and teacher's fair use. This doesn't really seem as though it would follow under fair use for me to publish narrations and copywork using the WWE text as my guideline. I'd basically be doing the work of making my own workbook , however different from theirs, and publishing it. But the idea, the order, the whole would be copied, does that make sense? It seems one of the rules is it couldn't hurt revenue. While I wouldn't be copying the workbook in any way, I would be copying the ideas of the lessons laid out in the text. If I put out my work I've selected for free, I suppose someone might choose to use that instead of buying the workbook. I hadn't really thought of that. I was just thinking that for someone like me who really couldn't put forth the money it could be helpful to have some ideas.

Thanks for the info . I put the blog under my name. There really isn't much to it yet , I'm new to blogging. I did put a sample letter and sample list of materials up for new homeschoolers. I remembered scouring the web for how to get my notification just right that first year! Now its old hat to me, but I figured it may help somebody out there. Once we move and I'm able to order next year's materials I'd like to post some reviews. Given time I might type up some sample curriculum outlines too. I wish we didn't have to supply them, but in my state we do by law. I prefer to keep mine simple and not go into exact detail, just enough to suffice, yk?
