Think I finally settled into what we are!!!

I have been all over the place trying to decide how I would approach schooling my DC. I love Waldorf and we attended parent/child before we moved. However, there are certain things that just didn't come natural to me, and I didn't want anything to be forced. Also, DD1 (5 in Aug.) has started showing some signs of academic readiness, according to some Waldorf texts I've read. Really she shouldn't until 6 or 7. She is now asking to learn to write letters and numbers. She wants to learn to read, speak Spanish, and work in real school books. This is all by her request. I have just been observing and following her lead up until this point. I will be moving slowly from here, but I have decided we are just eclectic. We are certainly Waldorf inspired, but also unschool inspired and old school inspired. Come August when we start a new year. I will actively be teaching my DD1 as she wants to learn new things. Not forcefully, but following her lead, and making it as much a part of our natural day to day as possible. I'm relieved and excited. I don't feel burdened about it anymore!!! Just had to share.

After wrestling with the meanings of different labels, and now 6 years experience homeschooling, I've decided we are WW-schoolers Whatever Works!

Yay!
I call us Charlotte Mason inspired eclectic homeschoolers. I find my philosophies match her's closer than other philosophies I've researched, but there are a few spots that don't work for us. A perfect example: She was against any kind of formal school work til the child's 6 or 7 (forgetting exactly) too, but I don't have any desire to wait that long, plus my kids want to learn to read & write WAY before that. So we totally do preschool, but I'm still *inspired* by CM's teachings!

I just call us eclectic here as well, too many ideas that I like but none that fit exact. When I read on the us'ing side I think we are too structured but when I read on this side I feel like we are not doing enough!
