Wanting to make some carriers

I am 28 weeks pregnant right now and I have already gotten a Moby wrap and cannot wait to use it. But I know that I also want a couple of other kinds. I've been looking into different ring slings and wraps as well as a couple of other carriers. What I don't like, is the prices of all of these carriers. I am wanting to make some of my own so I can choose the type of fabric and fit, but wanted to know if anyone had any ideas or advice of how I could go about doing this. Are there any patterns or at least structures that I could follow? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are tons of patterns and tutorials out there, just google what you are looking for. This will get you started. I have made all but one carrier that I own, have fun!

I made my own "Maya" sling. If you go to Maya Wrap's website and search for a sewing pattern, they have a pattern to make your own ring sling. It was quite simple! Have fun!

If I were you, I would return the Moby and make my own stretchy wrap. They are so easy! Here are some instructions on how to make a no-sew stretchy wrap. Save your $$ for the carriers you can't make yourself.

Also, I have heard that the Moby wraps aren't that great... too thick and tend to sag easily.

Here are directions on how to make several types of ring slings and you can order your rings from here.

I'm also planning to make my own gauze wrap, which will be great for my summer baby. I find the stretchy wraps and my Ergo to be way too hot in the summer. I found some thicker, sturdy guaze fabric at our local fabric store for $3.99/yd. I'm going to buy about 5 yds and hem the edges, plus put a little button or ribbon to indicate where the center is (this helps make sure the wrap is even on both sides when you're putting the baby in it).

You can also find some great baby carriers used on thebabywearer.com, but you have to register for an account. It's much cheaper to buy used and the carriers are usually in great shape!

I bought my Moby off of craigslist and truthfully, can't wait to use it. I would never pay full price, b/c I know I could make it for cheaper. I am planning on making a couple of more, so I will have different colors and different types of fabric. I am also planning on making my own RS and MT and maybe a couple of other wraps. I know I want to make a gauze wrap for the summer.
