Malabsorption and GAPS?

I just found out from my N.D. that I'm not absorbing most of my nutrients.
I've been on supplements for severe adrenal fatigue and hypothyroid for about four months, but they haven't done a thing because my body isn't absorbing them.
She thinks I could possibly have H. Pylori, So I'm on something to kill it. if that doesn't work then it's on to other digestive possibilities.
My N.D. didn't mention it, but I'm wondering about the possibility of gluten intolerance? Doesn't that cause malabsorption?
My question to all of you is, do you think going on GAPS diet would help? Or gluten- free?
I'm kind of pulling at threads here, and so tired of feeling like crap!
Oh, and we follow a pretty TF diet, though all of my grains are NOT fermented, and I've been so tired I haven't been as vigilant as possible.
Alos, if it helps at all, all of these health issues have manifested themselves with the pregnancy of my daughter, who is 9 months old. I was very sick while carrying her, and have never fully recovered.
Any help is appreciated, I'm desperate!!

I'm not an expert in GAPS, but we did do a modified run at it a couple of years ago when we found out that my ds had a soy allergy and was having some gut issues. His malabsorption was due to his allergy and we needed to heal the gut along with removing the allergen. We needed to up certain supplements such as magnesium because of a chronic deficit due to lack of absorption.

You don't mention if you are doing any probiotics - natural or supplemented. Obviously this is very important to GAPS and gut health in general. What are you doing?

If it were me, I would definitely remove gluten and see what happens. Doing a full GAPS is much more restrictive, so you could try that if removing gluten doesn't work. I know that there are many mamas in the allergy forum who have gone gluten free and have done GAPS, so you could post there for some additional advice. Lots of TF'ers there, too.

GL!

Just curious have you ruled out Hashimotos? Since your seeing an ND I'm assuming you have?? I bring up Hashis because those with Hashis should cut out gluten. I think gluten is very problematic for most people...you could start there. When was your thyroid checked last...curious what your numbers were. I just finished reading this book www.thyroidbook.com and I found it very helpful and informative. He address adrenal fatigue in his book as well. And since you are hypo your highly likely do have gut issues.

I too fell apart after my pregnancy so I know how you feel. DD is 21 months now and I'm feeling ALOT better. I have Hashis and adrenal fatigue. I could be doing a lot better but I've been slack on my supps, diet, etc

How do you rule out Hashimotos, and what exactly is it?
I've had my thyroid levels tested, and the T3 and T4 are low,but I don't think extremely so.
My N.D. did mention that she wonders if I could have a conversion problem....
As far as probiotics, I've been kind of lazy lately, mostly because I'm so tired of trying. Typically though I try to get something fermented every day.
mom61508, I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better, that's encouraging!

Hashimotos is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks the thyroid. and you check it by testing for thyroid anitbodies(TPO and TGB test)thru blood work. I would definitely ask her to do check your antibodies. A lot of people with hypothyroid have Hashismotos.

My first pregnancy really did me in too, adrenal-wise. Things that helped me were raw liver pills, nettle infusion, and high doses of coconut oil. All of them helped me feel good enough to make a larger plan. I mention this because I think GAPS, or any diet, is hard to wrap your brain around when you have no energy.

High-dose coconut oil helps both the thyroid and the adrenals. And it helps the gut. It might be a good place to start.

Oh, and the third trimester of pregnancy requires about three times as much cortisol as normal from your adrenals. Add sleep deprivation to that, and you've got a recipe for adrenal trouble. I think it affects a lot of women.
