I recently went through back surgery and had to put my daughter in daycare. Three days into daycare she got sick and has not gotten over it. That was at the end of January. Last week I finally pulled her out of daycare and she still has a cough/cold. Green mucous occasional fever ect. I took her to the Drs numerous times and they said do the humidifier, saline drops, keep her propped up ect. Well I keep doing that and she continues to not get better and seems to be getting worse. She isnt able to sleep and not eating well. Is there anything else I can do? I am worried its in her lungs or chest. I can hear it coming from that area. I was hoping a week of being out of daycare things would improve but apparently not. I am going on over 55 hours of not being able to sleep cause she is so sick. I wonder if I should take her to the ER, just worried they will say the same thing the Drs did...to wait it out, but I HAVE been waiting it out and its not going away! Any advice? TIA

I think that green mucus is indicative of infection. Also if she is having fever, and it doesn't seem to be from a virus of limited duration, then the fever could be from infection too. She is very young, and has small lungs, so excess mucus could be a problem. Trust your intuition, and if she continues to have a fever, have trouble breathing, is not urinating or pooping, or seems lethargic, take her in asap.
Best to you.

Mama, in your shoes, I would be getting out the mama bear act on the doctors, whether the doctors you usually see or the ER I do not know. The tincture of time has been tried, it's time to move on.
I know that it very often happens at my pediatrician's office that sick visits are handled by whoever's free. So if she's not seeing the same ped twice, they may not quite have it through their heads that she is not improving at all, and that she's been unwell for a long time. Sometimes it's possible to get through this by making an appointment with your primary ped and laying it all on the line, but if they can't see her, oh, now? I wouldn't be satisfied with that at this point.
I don't know that I would necessarily do the ER, but then, my pediatrician has available urgent care on weekends. If you can choose the ER at a children's hospital, I'd do that.
Go in with some really clear statements:
1. You've been following their recommendations for care of a child with a minor respiratory ailment for quite some time now, and she's not showing improvement.
2. She's sleeping and eating badly, so this illness is impacting her overall health.
3. You're hearing sounds from her lungs that concern you and that warrant investigation (chest x-ray).
