mastitis cause decrease in supply?

I developed mastitis last Friday. Started on antiobioitics the same day, yes I was very ill at the time. So now my breast (affected side) is not hard with a few lumps, redness is not getting worse and my fever is under control (it peaked at 40.6) so the antiobiotics seem to be working.

My ds (almost 6months) is nursing for lengthy periods and then gets fussy at the breast pulling and twisting, he is still wetting diapers but definately not as wet as normal so overall I think he is getting enough to keep him going just maybe not as much as he wants.

If you have had mastitis did you notice your supply decrease?

i had mastitis about 2 weeks ago and i found that it temporarily decreased my supply in the affected breast. i think the inflamed breast tissue put pressure on the ducts and made the milk harder to get out. and my lo isn't the most vigorous sucker, so that might have contributed too. she was fussing like you described your lo doing. now that i'm totally over it (no swelling or hardness at all for a few days) my supply seems to be back to were it was. i have been starting her on the affected breast about 80% of the time, just to make sure we fully empty that breast and keep the supply up.
i spoke to my lc about the mastitis when i first came down with it and she stressed how important it was to continue to nurse and to always start out on the infected breast. she did mention "mastitis can affect supply", but i don't think it has for me.
good luck and glad you're feeling better. mastitis stinks!
