Pregnant and nursing - how is the first tri? - Page 2

I'm just 6wks, too. DD is nearly 3 and nurses mostly just to go to sleep (night, and once or so a week a nap) and to wake up in the AM. She loves her boobies, she cuddles them and talks to them and stuff, but it's been a nice natural progression down to this. I'm hoping I keep my milk as much as possible through the pregnancy. We'll see how it goes, and pain for me or whatever. I get the creepy crawlies already sometimes, so we'll just have to set limits so it's not something negative for both of us. But I'd love to keep doing just bedtime nursies tandeming. I think it would be nice for sibling bonding.

ds is only almost 10 months old, so i'm prayin ghe doesn't wean. i'd really like to tandem nurse. i have all day morning sickness, so it's made things a little difficult. plus, ds gets up every 2 hours during the night to nurse, and i find that it makes me feel even sicker to my stomach. i'm hoping we only have a few weeks of feeling yucky left! oh, and he seems to drag his teeth at times, which makes the sore nipples even worse.

I was still BFing my DD (17mos) when I discovered I was pregnant. It was DD getting fussy/annoyed while BFing that clued me in. I guess my milk really dried up--I was about 11 weeks along. I started to bring a sippy cup to bed with us, she'd try nursing and then go to the cup before sleeping. I thought this might go on for months but she weaned in about 2 weeks...I guess it was just time & her personality. I don't think it would have been so easy with my son.
I did start noticing sore nipples around this time so I was glad she weaned so easily--even though it was a shock...'like, seriously, that's it? we are done?' LOL

15 weeks, still nursing here. My supply has dropped a bit, I think, but I definitely still have milk. Don't know whether that has to do with the age of my child (still a few weeks shy of a year old), or whether I'm just lucky.

Really I've had no problems. Nursing wasn't that uncomfortable in the first tri, but I could not STAND to have her touch/play with the nipple with her hands, don't know why, they were just too tender and it made my skin crawl.

I had planned to nurse through my pregnancy as long as possible... but looks like my milk is drying up sooner. DD is almost 15 monts old, and I was still pumping during the day and I was losing about 1/4 oz a day. At night when she was trying to nurse she'd start getting mad because no milk was coming out and get really upset. After a week of this I came to accept that I'm just not making enough milk for her anymore so started giving her some soy milk at night.

This is likely my last week pumping at work as I'm only getting an ounce. I'll be 9 weeks pregnant on Sunday.

I'm sad that it came about like this, and I was hoping to make it to at least 18 months, but I know my body was so done with pumping, and now at night there just is not much milk. I'm planning to still nurse DD after work and on weekends as long as she wants to and is not yelling about no milk.

She seems okay though and her appetite for food has picked up big time!

I am almost 9 weeks and nursing my almost 18 month old DD. My nipples are more sensitive, but nothing I can't easily handle. I do have morning sickness, a little worse than when I was preg with dd. I think i had a dip in supply at the beginning of the preg, but things seem to be fine now.

I'm 32 weeks along with my second now and nursed through the entire pregnancy. At some point I stopped making milk, I think (I can't hand express any), but my son keeps on keepin' on, which is okay by me so far.

Nipple sensitivity/discomfort has varied for me throughout pregnancy. Sometimes it was just mildly annoying and other times it was closer to unbearable. Always it is worse at latch-on and kind of subsides after that.

I hesitate to call it painful, since the first six weeks of my first son's life I had cracked and bleeding nipples and had to scream into a pillow every time he latched on (that was awesome, let me tell you). It has been varying shades of uncomfortable, though, and the thing that surprised me was the mental shift that happened.

Nursing during pregnancy has been mentally different--sometimes it even makes my skin crawl! That has has more of an impact on our nursing relationship than any physical symptoms by far. I find it helps me to have something else to concentrate on while we're nursing (reading articles on my phone or whatever) so I don't just sit there and think about how it feels.

You'll probably find mamas here with experiences that are very different. I'm sure someone has recommended it already, but you might want to check out Adventures in Tandem Nursing. It was a big help to me!

I am in my third trimester and still nursing my almost 3 year old. The first trimester was terrible for me in terms of morning sickness.,, much much worse then with DD. The nursing was OK, but sometime in the middle of the first tri my milk dried up and my nipples got extremely sore. Since then nursing has been fairly painful. Somedays I just wanted to wean her but I really wanted to tandem nurse so I kept with it.

Now I am at the end of my pregnancy I almost feel claustrophobic while nursing. The pressure of DD leaning against my belly, and then the uncomfortable nursing isn't that fun, but honestly it is worth it in my opinion.

Wow - it has been great to read about all your experiences, thank you! Since I originally posted, the sickness has come on a little stronger, mainly in the afternoon/evening, though and the nursing continues. DD nurses more frequently during the day and most nights, almost constantly. She's always nursed a lot at night though, so I am not feeling like there's a huge difference there. I am definitely going to get my hands on a copy of Adventures in Tandem Nursing! I've read about it and it seems to be the must-read for me this go-round. I am still only in my 7th week, so there's quite a lot ahead of us, but I'm hopeful we'll come out of it with two nursers!
thanks again!
