I Need Fast Help: What is "R/S for Parent?"

Help!

My ds had an IEP update meeting scheduled that I had to fight to have rescheduled. I also had to write a letter about something misreported on the last IEP, which was not received well. It really got nasty between me and the special ed department, and we haven't even MET about the IEP yet.

Aaaaanyway, I got confirmation of the new time in the mail, and didn't even really look at it until now...the night before the meeting.

I now see that they have added a purpose to the meeting. One is "IEP Development," which is what it originally was. They have also marked the box "other," and listed "R/S for parent."

WTF is "R/S"?!?!

It could mean: 'reschedule'

We ( I was a Spec.Ed teacher and part of MET/IEP teams) had to document if we had to reschedule an IEP or MET due to conflict- that way if we met over the 30 day requirement it was shown that we originally had planned to met before the deadline. If it does say reschedule, it is simply documentation to say they tried to previous schedule it.

Often though a reason is also written. 'reschedule due to snow day', 'reschedule due to parent request/teacher request, etc". That way they have more information should the issue arise WHY it did not happen before the original time limit.

That is just my best guess---since we always wrote it out.

I hope it goes well! Make sure you document everything you feel comfortable doing so if you need to advocate more for your child. Many districts/areas/counties have mediators if you feel that your child is not getting their needs met. Check your Parent Handbook (should have gotten it with your IEP invite/ initial paperwork for IEP).

Thanks. If that is the case, I feel much better.

Just a quick update to say the meeting went well. Thanks for helping me figure out the meaning of "R/S for parent" so that I didn't go into the meeting unsure and on the defensive (since it was listed under "purpose of meeting," I was worried they were going to try to pull something). I really think abbreviations shouldn't be used on meeting notices to parents .
