So, here's the thing. We don't have a TV, but watch a lot of TV shows and movies on our projector. We watch something while we eat every night, and until recently DD just watched (ie breastfed!) with us. But she's starting to get too old for some of the stuff we watch - she notices what's going on now and I don't want to scare her/traumatise her/turn her into a teenage serial killer. She says "Fall down!" if someone gets shot...
So anyhoo, DH doesn't fancy watching Sesame Street while he eats his dinner for the next 15 years. And he's not into a lot of the "safe" movies, like Mary Poppins or Pollyanna (plus, we can't watch a whole movie every night, we have Things to Do).
So I thought, howsabout documentaries? DD loved Food, Inc. because of the animals (ironically!), and I wondered if we could get hold of some old National Geographic specials or something. DH and I would probably both find them pretty interesting.
I also want to get hold of Howard Goodall's Big Bangs, an awesome mini-series about the history of music (way more entertaining than it sounds, I heartily recommend it!). DD is hugely into music, so she'll like looking at all the instruments and hearing the sounds.
Any other ideas? Basically I just want some stuff that won't scar the toddler for life, but preferably something she'll find entertaining/educational as well; but not something that'll cause DH to drive a fork into his eye.
It doesn't have to be documentaries, just something. Oh, and I have a phobia of whales and sharks and undersea life in general, so please don't recommend anything entitled "Looming Large-Toothed Mysteries of the Deep".
