Frostbite and fertility???

We responded to a craigslist add for free bantam roosters. We love having a bantam hen or two because they are so broody and will hatch our heavier breed's eggs. Right now we only have one hen, no rooster, so we wanted a few more and this was the cheapest, easiest way! Hopefully next year we can have a few hens raising chicks at a time!

Anyway, when we got their, she had 3 roosters. We picked one out but before we left she looked at his comb. She said, "Oh good, no frostbite. It can affect their fertility." I've never heard of such a thing, have you??

I have never heard of that before, nor have I ever noticed problems with chickens whose combs were frostbitten.

Me neither! I think that all of our roosters have experienced a bit of frostbite, and we've had chicks from them....not at the success rate I'd like, but hey, that's probably just life, not frostbite!

I'm trying to imagine how frostbitten combs would result in less effective reproductive organs...
