I'd love to try almond butter as an alternative to PB, and I have almond milk that I bought before we found out he was allergic that needs to be used.

You need to call the manufacturer and see if it's produced on equipment with peanuts. I think there is a lot of cross contamination in products. Outside of that I think he does have an increased risk of tree nut allergy so some say avoid. My son's allergist told us avoiding uncross contaminated peanut (he has a tree nut allergy) is up to us but that he does have an increased chance of developing a peanut allergy. We decided for us it wasn't worth the risk so we're avoiding peanut with him.
Tree nut allergy is outgrown far less often than even peanut.
What about sunflower butter? (says the mom whose kid then developed a sunflower allergy--however he had other seed allergies as well as nuts)

How about peabutter???
www.peabutter.ca
It's made with brown peas. It tastes like natural peanut butter. My girls always had this first and then we let them try peanut butter. DD3 only eat this still.
Here's the page to find it in the usa.
