Shopping for disposables

This is just an experience I had with DS the other day. We EC'd and DS has been dry during the day since month 15. We used disposables instead of cloth at night on the advice of the pediatrician (due to UTIs). When DS was not even a year old, DH had bought the motherload of disposable diapers, thinking that we would go through them quickly. But no... it took us a year to use 180 diapers. My plan was to stop diapering altogether once this stash was gone.

Going completely diaperless at night went very well for the first few weeks, and I was pleased. Then, all of a sudden, I had to change the bedding daily as DS was bed wetting. I was getting a bit tired of this routine. So, I decided that DS actually still needed to wear a night time diaper, despite my hopes and wishes that he would be done.

We went out to the drugstore and as I stood there with DS, I just got overwhelmed at the types of diapers one can buy! Geez. It took me a long time to figure out which one I should grab. DS was getting impatient, so I grabbed a pack. Then DS said: 'No mamma, no diapers.' So, I looked at DS, verified that he did not want any, and put them back on the shelf. He wets the bed sometimes, but that's alright!

Get a waterproof mat.

We've been having a lot of wet nights lately since I've been sleeping more deeply (Spring, what'd do?) and it's been soooo horrible on the nights we don't have a pad available.

We use the Priva mats which are nice and large.

for my older kids we use a waterproof mattress pad cover than the sheet than a water proof pad (and when they were having a lot of wet nights we would add an extra sheet and extra pad so that when they peed we just would remove what was wet and they would still have a dry bed w/out changing everything) Doesn't always work but most of the time it does.

I'd second the waterproof bed pad! Here's my system: Giant vinyl cover on entire mattress (like a big plastic bag with a zipper, less than $10 at target). then a fitted sheet. Then a waterproof crib pad, then a thick towel, then another fitted sheet. I can strip off all the wet layers and the bed's ready to be slept in immediately.

oddly, we are currently DRY at night and wet a few times during the day. what is up with that?

and poops? currently no signal. but, he has been sick, and that means poop is off schedule and so he doesn't quite know when it's coming either (and it comes fast for him, poor dear). so, you know, that's where we are.

btw, if you do want a good disposable, i recommend 7th generation. toys r us has the best prices (where we lived).

We're the reverse...DD will stay dry at night but we miss a ton during the day. I have to do sposies when we leave the house.

I'd say 7th generation or earth's best are your only two "healthier" options. Huggies is probably better than Pampers due to fragrance issues, but neither is "healthier."

Have you checked out gdiapers? DD has really gone south with EC, other than night time, so I was thinking of using gdiapers and just putting the issue on the back burner.
