Quick, cheap fix for kitchen cupboards...

It seems everytime my landlord has one of his maintenance guys fix something, it breaks within a few weeks. He thinks WE are hard on the house, but it's just cheaply made. I have been thinking for awhile that it would be cute to do away with the cupboard doors and replace them with curtains, but I'm not sure how to do this. Also I think I'd have to build some kind of shelves in the cupboards to make maximum use of the space, but i am not really all that carpentry inclined, so it would have to be simple. I realize it may be difficult for you to suggest options without knowing what my cupboards look like, or how big they are. There is a silverware drawer with two bigger drawers underneath. Next to that is a fair sized cupboard with one door, underneath a bigger silverwear drawer. Then there is a big under the sink cupboard. And then one more silverwear drawer, this one has two parts, and another cupboard underneath with a shelf in the back. Not sure if that helps...Any ideas?

I think curtained cupboards are cute. For some reason all the men in the family disagree with me.

My mom had curtains on her kitchen cupboards temporarily. She just used small tension rods to hold them into the framework of the cupboards. I have to say, sometimes having curtains is a little annoying. On thing I wished we could have done is to get curtain rods that are on hinges so that they could be opened like cupboard doors and not so much in the way.

About inside the cupboards....I'm not quite getting the picture of your situation there. But when I want to use cupboard or closet shelf space more efficiently, I get those wire shelves that can be put in anywhere. Like the ones here. Those look bolted onto the wall, but you can get freestanding ones. I've seen them at places like Dollar General.

Yes, I second the wire shelves, you can get them really cheap sometimes at big box houseware stores, or even Ikea. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/ca...kitchen/16217/
The "rationel" kitchen series has all kinds of inner cabinet fittings and stuff. Good luck (we live in an apartment too, so I totally understand your frustration).

You could build something prettier than the wire shelves. Wood is cheap.
