Resources dealing with Slave Trade?

I'm particularly looking for some books about the African slave trade. Ds is in kindy and we've been studying Africa this past month. One of the books we read vaguely mentioned slaves and he asked about it. So we've talked about it a bit and he's still interested. I can tell that he just doesn't "get it" and is wanting to read more about it. I'd need something with a bunch of pictures and something that was not too graphic since he is so young. He's not a sensitive child so it can be forth coming. I looked around amazon a bit but found mostly things for older kids in the junior high range.

I read "The Old African" by Jerry Pinkney to my K5 son this year. I think it's a great book in many ways, but you should preview it make sure that it's not too graphic and that you aren't overwhelmingly irritated by the "magic Negro" aspect of it all.

Shout out to Jerry Pinkney: I know you mean well, but it is not socially useful for you to tell my little towheaded child, who idolizes you since you wrote and illustrated his favorite Noah's Ark book, that Black folks have psychic powers! Sheesh!

I've got another thread going about the "If You. . . " series. When I was looking through the titles on Amazon, they had a few--one was about living in the time of slavery, one was about the Underground Railroad, one was on the Civil War. There was also one about Martin Luther King if you plan to extend it out to the civil rights movement HTH
