Is this a healthy lunch?

My husband is always getting on me about eating better, and whenever he gets onto a health kick, he starts making salad all the time. The thing is, I don't really like lettuce or tomato (unless it's cherry tomatoes, which he doesn't buy, and then only sometimes). So today he left me a bunch of salad fixins for my lunch, and I am wondering... Would it be healthy if I left out the "salad" and just ate:

A hard boiled egg
Cottage cheese
Maybe a slice or two of bacon
Some avacado slices

Sounds like a lot of protein / fat, but it also sounds good. (And it's MUCH better than what I had for dinner last night -- candy. Oooh, terrible!)

I'd add a cup of spring greens to make it healthier. But otherwise, sounds delicious and healthy! I think the bacon and other fats are great - but then again, I am a convert to TF.

ETA: Sorry - I must have read too fast -- I just saw you wanted leave out the lettuce. Hmmm....why not buy cherry tomatoes more often and have those? Or what about mushrooms? Just trying to veggie it up a little!

I would leave out the bacon and add some sliced veggies (carrot, red pepper, cucumber, radish) or some fruit.

I often have a salade composee or salade nicoise without tossing it together - just leave the ingredients separately on the plate and drizzle with a little vinaigrette. I think you can make a lovely presentation that way.

I think it sounds great, but I'm primal! http://www.marksdailyapple.com/primal-blueprint-101/

I love salad, but that is a new development.

My salads always have a lot of protein and healthy fats, and often bacon.

What kind of lettuce are you using? I hate iceberg and it has very little in the way of nutrients. Try baby spinach, romaine, mixed baby greens etc. Find something you like.

Cherry tomatoes and grape tomatos rock a salad, so tell your dh that you don't like other tomatoes and if he wants you on board you need the right 'matos!

I can't eat salad without tasty dressing. Even if it's just fresh minced garlic, squeeze of lemon, walnut oil and a splash of balsamic. My homemade cesear dressing is addictive and I eat it often. I just made a strawberry balsamic dressing that was out of this world.

Get creative and see if you can find some salads you like!

No advice, just wanted to let you know that you're not alone on hating lettuce. ugh.

I can eat spinach though, so I just make my salads out of that. But I still tend to load up on the toppings.

It sounds great to me.

They all sound like good food but there is really no balance there and no fruits and veggies (Except for the avacado). or whole grains. and for what its worth slapping all that on a bed of iceburge lettuce or even romain wouldn't make it all that much more healthy.

There is no real reason to eat lettuce. you do need dark leafy greens but most lettuce is none of that. and there are far tastier ways to eat greens than salad.

I would pick one of the protiens (egg, bacon) and just one of the fats (avacado, bacon) and then add a peice of fruit and couple of veggie choices. Maybe some cherry tomatoes - they work well with avacado and bacon. slap them on a peice of bread together. uummmmm yum. bacon avacado and tomato sandwhiches are awesome. Maybe out some sliced fruit and granola in with your cottage chesse, have a hard boiled egg and some baby carrots....

Sounds like a great meal to me. Although I do agree that you could stand to add some produce to that... cucumber, bell pepper, even onion would work with that combo. A "few slices" of avocado is not enough IMO - although an entire avocado would be.
