Birthday party theme ideas please - 1yr old

ds3 is about to turn 1 and I need a cool, unusual birthday party theme. For ds2, I chose a Dr. Seuss theme, complete with rhyming invites, etc. So, I'd like to have something just as fun for ds3.

Anyone have a fun idea?

original? No. We did Blues Clues for DS2. My teenage SL always does the decors when we have parties. It was really cute.

Nothing quite original is coming to mind, but I always like Under The Sea type parties... mermaids... octupi... starfish... submarines. Pirates used to be a favorite of mine until they become trendy. Hmm... we did a really cute cowboy party for my DS1's first birthday. The invitation said "Howdy, Pardners!" on the front.

Where the Wild Things Are or some other Maurice Sendak theme?

Insects? You could do some really cool dragonfly/spider-type decorations without it looking icky.

I dunno -- my DD's birthday is in April and we usually just do a "spring" sort of theme, with sweet pastel cupcakes, tea sandwiches, floral decorations, etc.

we didn't have a theme for DS's 1st birthday. it was "keep it simple" if anything. LOL

i like the idea of poetry--like Dr Suess rhyming--so perhaps choose another poet?

How about the very hungry caterpillar.

An invitation with a hole in it
A fruit tray with all the fruits the caterpillar ate, some of the Saturday food is nice for a party.

For decorations paper leaves and butterflies.

For a cake you could line up 1 red and several green cupcakes into a caterpillar or make a butterfly from a round cake, slice into semi circles and place the back to back for the wings.

I would go simple and maybe do the party based on an object your son likes alot. For example, when DS was around 1, the only word he said consistently was 'cat'. Everything he pointed to he said cat! I could have made a cat party- everything could be cat decorated He wouldn't have gotten it, but it would make a fun story

We did Dr. Seuss for ds' 1st birthday too! Here are his other birthday themes:

2: trains 3: fire trucks 4: monsters

And dd:

1: cupcakes 2: birds

For dd2 (winter birthday) we are playing on "wonderland" and doing a "winter ONEderland" theme. (I plan waaay ahead so I can find things on sale!!) You could use ONEderland too...maybe Alice in ONEderland an have just a ton of the cool and fun stuff from Alice. A Mad Tea Party or something like that.

We did the Very Hungry Caterpillar for my oldest son's first birthday. For my second son's first birthday we did a pumpkin theme sinc he has a birthday right next to Halloween. For my daughter we did a daisy theme for her first.

If you want to stick with a poetry theme how about something from Mother Goose or Where the Sidewalk Ends? Thomas the Tank Engine books have a lot of rhyming in them (like Stop Train Stop), but my favorite would be Wynken, Blynken and Nod.

Just the first few lines create a whole "theme" of invitations, cupcakes/cake designs, etc., in my head:

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night
Sailed off in a wooden shoe---
Sailed on a river of crystal light,
Into a sea of dew.

we refer to DS as "bug" online...so going with that theme he had a "bug" party for his first. did these invitations: http://www.vistaprint.com/vp/ns/stud...d2&page=1&rd=2

made a caterpillar cake like this: http://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/cake-gallery.html a large one for the adults and a mini version as DS's smash cake. Each body segment was a different flavor cake. and I made spots out of pre-colored fondant circles (layered or not)

instead of party hats I made bug antennae out of headbands, pipe cleaners, and pompoms for all the guests.

For a guestbook I bought a hardback copy of "the Hungry Caterpillar" and marked out a section for a picture to be placed later and asked people to sign the inside cover pages.

You can take balloons and color/connect them to create various bugs (ladybugs, caterpillars, bumblebee, etc).

Wouldn't she get more suggestions from people who have already thrown a one year old party if it was in the toddlers section? I understand that Life with a Babe is more for babies under one and the toddlers section is for over one.

This thread is 2.5 years old, so the kid is technically a preschooler now.  :)
