Permanent marker vs the kitchen table

The marker won.
Seriously though, any ideas how to get permanent black marker off a white table? Its not wood, its melamine I think. Either way, not sure how to go about cleaning it without wrecking the table.

I've had good luck using rubbing alcohol (or an alcohol based hand sanitizer) to remove permanent marker. It sometimes takes a few applications- and test your table surface first to make sure its safe.

Good luck!

Charlies Soap makes a great cleaner that has removed Red permanant marker from our kitchen floor. I have also used dry erase marker to take permanant marker off of a white board.

Magic Eraser? They really are awesome for things like that.

Amodex and a magic eraser.

I've been in the same situation before. Magic Eraser removed permanent marker from my wooden tabletop.

Just an update, I pulled out the magic eraser and it worked pretty well. I still have a gray shadow on my table but its no where as bad as it was before.
Thanks for the suggestions!

And now that the horse is out of the barn, might I suggest a cheap washable tablecloth?

I've used a baking soda paste ( baking soda and water) to remove crayon from my wooden table before. Maybe it would work with markers.

I actually do have some, but they usually end up getting ripped off the table by the youngest.I hid the permanent marker instead

I was always loosing my tablecloths, too, until I bought the ones that have elastic going all the way around. There is no way they are going to get it off unless they really, really try.

Google elastic plastic table covers, and go to the shopping link to see what they look like. I bought mine off Ebay, and ended up with 4 for $10.

sunscreen takes off permanent marker and won't scratch your wood.

We used to use rubbing alcohol to remove permanent marker from surfaces.
