For those whose kids have had tonsils removed...

how many days did they need pain meds? When would you say the worst of it was over?

DS had his out on Friday and was admitted to the hospital yesterday afternoon (won't drink anything, won't even swallow his own spit, he just drools it out). Won't take his pain meds, which compounds the problem. So he's been in here since around noon Sunday and will remain tonight and probably tomorrow too. He's on morphine for the pain and he's still miserable and hasn't drank anything all day (but the morphine made his stomach upset so we added zofran to the mix and it seems to be helping... he's been passed out for a couple hours). Popsicles and ice cream we just hold to his (closed) lips and he lets them melt down his chin.

It was about a week for Brandon, but the last 4 days of that week he was in the hospital getting IV pain relief. It took 2 weeks before he actually ate a decent amount (meaning enough to constitute one meal combined all day).

My DS had them out on a Tuesday when he was 4 and he was back to daycare the next Monday. We only gave him the Vicodin for about 4 days I think, then just ibuprofen around-the-clock for a couple more.

Thanks! DS is doing much better right now and we just got home from the hospital. He's on tylenol suppositories every 4 hours around the clock so hopefully it helps!

Eh, I'm not too worried about that right now. If he eats, cool. As long as he's drinking I'm cool (for now ).

I was just making sure he should be okay to go back to school on Monday. He had it done Friday so that would be 10 days to recover. Obviously they aren't going to be doing the tylenol suppositories if he's still in pain so I would have to run to the school and give it to him
