I'm delighted to announce the birth of our new baby girl.
Kessa
10lbs 8oz
20.75" long
born at home at 1:43pm
Because I was having regular contractions on and off...it was hard to know if this was the real thing. The contractions certainly were stronger than they had been, but not a great pattern when they first started at 3am. I was able to go back to sleep until later. I finally started timing contractions at 10:45am, thought they were coming regular, but still 5-6mins apart. Finally at 12 noon I was sure this was labor, called my husband to come home, called the midwife (who lives just over an hour away). Almost right away I felt that I was too uncomfortable and needed to get to the shower. Once in the shower I felt I was probably in transition...and all by myself. My husband finally got home about 12:30 and by 1 I was pushing with contractions. I could feel the bulge of waters. I got out of the shower, sat on the toilet and my water broke with a contraction. My husband was concerned I was going to have the baby on the toilet, so we moved to the bedroom and had a shower curtain/towels/chux set up on the carpet. I started pushing with contractions squatting, then moved to my knees with my hands on the bed. I felt the head and it was really neat. The midwife arrived once the head was mostly out at about 1:30. She got right into position and suggested I turn over for the shoulders. I needed to push for shoulders and also for the bum! She's a big girl!
I'm so glad to not be pregnant anymore!
