Milk Thistle

I've been taking milk thistle for a few months but I'm wondering how much do you really need to make a difference for your liver?

Silymarins is what helps the liver and I just read you need 60-80mg to be really effective. I'm taking the gaia herbs brand and it's only 10mg of silymarins per dropperful...not very much. Anyone know of a good brand that has at least 60 mg??? I couldn't find any at wholefoods.

I'm buying whole milk thistle seeds from Mountain Rose Herbs, check the sticky for ordering through MDC so they get a little bit of money, and I'm grinding the seeds in a coffeebean grinder.

I think it's a reasonable way to take milk thistle. I don't think it's the type of supp that makes you feel better in a few days or a week or two, it's more subtle than that.

I've looked around some for dosages of ground whole seeds, since I didn't see direct comparisons from capsules/dosages to amounts of ground whole seeds, and I ended up at 1 tablespoon of ground seed 2-3x/day. That was the high end of dosing I found discussed.

I didn't even think of grinding the whole seed. I wonder how the seeds taste? The tincture form isn't bad tasting at all. I will you take the ground seed...mix in water?
